more about Dental Expanders

Removable Expander
A removable expander (or removable palatal expander) consists of a dental expansion screw, expansion wire, and acrylic. Unlike fixed expanders, this device can be removed by the patient. It’s custom-made and typically used in cases where gradual expansion is needed. By regularly adjusting the expander as per the orthodontist’s instructions, the device helps widen the palate, making space for teeth alignment and addressing issues related to overcrowding or a narrow jaw.

Hyrax Rapid Palatal Expander
The Hyrax rapid palatal expander, also called a matillary expander or rapid expander, is a fixed expansion appliance. It is a custom-made palatal expander that includes two metal wings with casting bands that fit precisely around molar teeth. The Hyrax rapid palatal expander is designed to widen the upper jaw quickly through a screw mechanism that’s adjusted regularly, gradually expanding the palate.

Bonded Palatal Expander
A bonded palatal expander, also known as matillary expander or rapid expander, includes screws and acrylic. It is a dental device used to widen the upper jaw. It’s fixed in place by bonding it to the teeth and is typically used in orthodontic treatment to address issues like crowding or a narrow upper arch, but also in a much faster way. The amazing part is that the acrylic can be a good support for the expansion if the patient has a crossbite (Class 3 bite).
